BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition

Published: 06 Dec 2012

BMW Motorsport have had a good year. After a 19 year break from DTM, they returned to claim a full house of drivers', team and manufacturers' titles to fill their Munich trophy cabinet. Not bad, considering how competitive the sparkiest, flameiest and most airborne touring car series is.

To mark the occasion, M decided to make a special edition road-going version of their race car: the BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition model.

If we were in charge of this project, we'd just put some indicators, number plates and a tax disc on Bruno Spengler's actual DTM car. Unfortunately they haven't done that. But it is a competition package M3 in matte black paint, designed to look like Bruno Spengler's very lackadaisical-looking touring car.

You also get carbon flaps and gurney, darker chrome accents, wheels that match the paint, and also bits of livery - including a M strip over the carbon fibre roof - dotted around the car. They've even put Bruno's name and a Canadian flag is the side of the car, so you can impress bystanders at the BP on the A3.

Inside, the door sills are lined with the colours of this year's DTM Champion helmet, there's carbon fibre and alcantara trim bits and Spengler's signature scribbled onto the dash.

But unlike the DTM car, there's also BMW's Park Distance Control, so you don't knock that posh paint by reversing into a trolley at Morrisons.

If you're a MASSIVE Bruno Spengler fan and want to drive around in a matte black M3 with his name is on the side, you'll need to fork out 99,000 Euro coins from your ‘left over holiday money' drawer - about £80k - to do so.

Think it's worth it dot commers?
