Oh hello, this is a subtly modified BMW M4 with 626bhp
Can someone check on Manhart? This unusually low-key M4 may well be a cry for help
German tuner Manhart isn’t really known for its subtlety in modifying cars – it prefers excessive amounts of carbon fibre and garish stickers as its signature approach. Take its MH4 GTR II for example – essentially it’s a BMW M4 CSL with 692bhp and a blacked-out bodykit that could make Batman feel self-conscious.
And yet, there may be a glimmer of hope for those who want to work on their M4 but don’t fancy giving it the full ‘watch this’ treatment. With the MH4 600 that you see above, Manhart concedes that “the eye-catching, extroverted appearance is not to everyone’s taste”. Hurrah!
The M4 Competition’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six has still been worked on though. Thanks to a new ECU, power is up from the standard 503bhp to a mighty 626bhp, and torque jumps to 575lb ft from 479lb ft. There’s a new stainless steel exhaust setup, plus a choice of lowering springs from either H&R or KW.
Manhart reckons the engine is where it was allowed to “let off steam”, whereas changes to the exterior are remarkably restrained. The carbon front lip and side skirts come from BMW’s own M Performance Parts range, as do those lovely gold-painted forged wheels which measure 20-inches up front and 21-inches at the rear. Pretty sensible sizes these days.
The carbon grille insert is Manhart’s own design along with the rear diffuser and little wing inserts ahead of the doors. We have to admit we’re not averse to any of the additions. Must have been tough for Manhart to not slap a massive wing on the back, though, so expect its next creation to be totally bonkers…
