Ford unveils one-off Transit SuperSportVan
Using procedures established under the Geneva Convention and the Clarkson Hyperbole Service, adding ‘Super' to the name of an automobile instantly makes it great.
So this one-off Ford Transit SuperSportVan is great. End of.
Unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the Birmingham NEC as a ‘special project', Ford has slotted its range-topping 3.2-litre five-pot with 200bhp and 347lb ft of the pully stuff into a short wheelbase Transit, whacked some Le Mans bonnet stripes/twin exhausts/alloys/spoilers/wide arches/side skirts on it and fed it gummy bear juice.
Underneath the arms-inside-the-cabin exterior sits a regular SportVan, complete with satnav, a 5in colour screen, LED cargo lights and a load area protection kit. As any shouty builder will inform you, you must always secure a big load.
Nice, right? Don't forget intrepid fact fan, 1971's Transit Supervan had a 5.0-litre V8, the '84 Supervan II clocked 178mph at Silverstone and 1995's Supervan III churned out 650bhp. We forget, is that the one where Transit fights an evil version of itself?
And while we're here, you may also like to remind yourself of what a regular Transit can do when pushed by a rather talented German lady around the Nurburgring...
