The Bugatti Chiron now gets the world’s poshest sunroof

Tiny tweaks mean big fanfare at Bugatti. Adding four exhausts, a carbon wiper and some retuned suspension to the Chiron earlier this year heralded a whole new version: the Chiron Sport. Now Molsheim’s at it again.

This is the new Sky View option for the Bugatti Chiron. And it is, as you can see, a glass roof. Specifically, two 65cm x 44cm panes of glass set into the 261mph hypercar’s roof, either side of the central Bugatti line styling feature. That’s it. No built-in stargazing telescope. Not even an electronic opening mechanism like you get in a VW Up. It’s a glass roof. The world’s fastest glass roof, at that.

Except it’s so much more, says Bugatti. The company says the new option – available to order right away – comprises four-layer lightweight glass. Wind noise has been carefully managed, and infrared radiation is simply reflected away, apparently, so the cockpit doesn’t overheat.

What’s more, Bugatti says: “The glass is tinted to prevent dazzle effects and to protect occupants’ privacy.” Well, quite. No-one wants to be overlooked in their 1,479bhp thrustmobile. Bugatti also claims the windows’ laminated design “improves the stiffness of the roof panels.”

Oh, and Sky View unlocks a handy 27mm of extra headroom versus the standard Chiron. Expect this to be the option of choice for NBA stars, especially as Bugatti's new boss Stephan Winklemann has bullishly denied Bugatti will develop a roofless Grand Sport version this time.

The first Chiron fitted with Sky View windows will be showcased at the Pebble Beach concours in California next month. Most sunroofs only add a couple of hundred quid to a car’s price, especially when they don’t electronically retract, so we’re expecting this will be a nice cheap option for the £2.5m road-rocket.
