The new Jeep Recon has landed, and it’s a 641bhp EV off-roader
Forget the Wrangler, this is the off-roader of our future – and it’s coming to the UK
Meet the new Jeep Recon. It’s a proper rufty tufty off-roader – as you’d expect from Jeep – that just happens to run on electric power. And it’s coming to the UK.
Jeep claims it’s the ‘only fully electric Trail-Rated SUV’, complete with its go-anywhere Selec-Terrain system, but we’re told it should be equally adept in urban environments too. In other words, it should handle the school run just as well as any wilderness trails.
From the outside it’s still the Jeep you know and love, with its boxy silhouette, removable doors and split side-opening tailgate. There’s an illuminated seven-slot grille, U-shaped daytime running lights, much protective plastic cladding and chunky wheel arches. Underneath those are chunky 33in tyres – with double wishbone and multi-link suspension front and rear respectively – and 23cm of ground clearance. The setup allows for 33.8-degree approach, 33.1-degree departure and 23.3-degree breakover angles.
Should be pretty capable in the rough stuff, then. And we haven’t even mentioned that electric powertrain yet. It gets a dual-motor setup, with a combined 641bhp and 620lb ft of torque driving all four wheels. Jeep reckons on 0-60mph in 3.6secs(!) and a range of around 250 miles from the 100kWh battery.
Inside there’s a 12.3in dial display and a 14.5in infotainment screen. Real shortage of proper physical switchgear though, which doesn't feel very Jeep. ‘Trail-ready’ materials should at least mean it’s hard wearing, and there’s an 85-litre frunk for any charging cables.
“The 2026 Jeep Recon is a bold step forward for the brand, an all-electric SUV that stays true to our core values of freedom, adventure and capability," said big boss of the brand Bob Broderdorf. "It’s trail-rated, purpose-built and ready to take Jeep enthusiasts into the future without compromising the legendary performance they expect.
“With the Jeep Recon, we’re proving that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence, it can elevate it, delivering instant torque, precision control and a quieter, more connected driving experience that’s uniquely Jeep.”
It’s set for launch first in the US and Canada from early next year, with the rest of the world to follow.
