Is this murdered-out Audi RS7 the most pointless special edition of all time?
‘Exclusive Edition’ super-saloon was clearly thought up in a panic on Friday afternoon
Normally, a special edition car celebrates something like a marque’s anniversary, or a noteworthy motorsport victory. Your badge is turning 50, 75, or 100? You won Le Mans and want to shout about it? Fill your boots.
But sometimes, there are ‘special editions’ that aren’t very special at all. And that brings us to this: the new Audi RS7 Exclusive Edition. Can you see what’s special about it?
Yep. It’s painted black. The grille’s black, the 22-inch wheels are diamond-cut-silver-on-black, the windows are tinted black and the interior is pink. Only kidding. It’s all black. There’s also lots of carbon fibre – which is sort of grey-ish. Not black. Exciting.
But wait. It’s not entirely black. No ma'am. The upholstery, floor mats and major controls are adorned with blue stitching. Blue! To match the blue calipers on the carbon-ceramic brakes. Clear a space in the Louvre people, we’ve got a new artwork.
Under the bonnet, the RS7’s engine hasn’t changed one bit. There’s a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 pumping out 591bhp to all four wheels. The Exclusive Edition does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and tops out at 190mph – just like an un-exclusive RS7.
It sounds good, apparently. Or in Audispeak: “the standard Sport exhaust elevates the visceral symphony of the V8 engine by amplifying the sound quotient.” Sexy, huh?
Oh, and guess what colour the sports exhaust tailpipes are? Yep, you got it.
Only 23 RS7 ‘EE’s will be built, all for North America. They’ll cost $165,000 each. But if you miss out on one, you could always just buy a black RS7. Not as if anyone will know the difference…
Anyone know of a duller supposed special edition? Nominate yours in the comments below.
