An 18,000-mile Ford Mustang Boss 429 is up for auction

Fancy partying like it’s the summer of ’69? Here’s the car for the job

Published: 04 Dec 2018

How refreshing to find a classic American muscle car up for auction with no ‘barn find’ nonsense attached to it. Though, this 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 must have spent a fair bit of time cooped up in a garage / barn/ outhouse of some sort.

This example will be auctioned, just in time for Christmas, at the Mecum Auctions Kansas City Sale this weekend. There’s no estimate attached to the sale just yet, but it’s not going to be a cheap pony car. The Boss 429 is a very sought-after spec, and you could eat your dinner off this one.

Under the bonnet (okay, hood, if you insist) lives the original 7.0-litre V8, good for a claimed 380bhp and more besides. Yep, no engine swap here. We know this, because the lot doesn’t just include the car’s original shipping invoice, but a build spec sheet detailing the car’s exact specification. What nerdy delight.

With only 1,358 ever built, this Boss 429, resplendent in Wimbledon White paintwork, is quite the muscle car unicorn. A true NASCAR homologation special – and barely run-in…
