Ferrari is making a 488 Pista exclusively for racing drivers
Do you pay to drive Ferrari’s racecars? You’re allowed this liveried-up ‘Piloti Ferrari’
Here’s some more good news if you move in the rarefied circles of folks who drive Ferrari racing cars. As if your lavish life needed more good news…
Would you like a stripped-out, powered-up Ferrari daubed in motorsport livery? Course you would. And the sweetener here is that mere Ferrari fans – people who buy the cars but don’t race them – can’t get on the list for this.
Meet the new Piloti Ferrari 488 Pista. Mechanically, it’s a completely standard, fully road-legal Ferrari 488 Pista – as if anything about the 90kg lighter, downforce-hungry, 711bhp mega-488 could be called ‘standard’.
Over the top lies a livery inspired by the GTE class winner of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship – the Porsche 911 RSR.
Only joking. The Italian tricolore’s inspired by the bodywork of the no.51 488 GTE of team AF Corse. Ferrari says the car “will be available in four different colours inspired by the world of racing: Rosso Corsa, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring.” So that’s red, blue, black and grey, for the less romantic among you.
Each example wears a WEC logo laurel, your own personal racing number, while the front ‘S-duct’ and rear wing are fashioned from a new matte-finish carbon fibre. The same flat finish features throughout the spartan Alcantara cabin, with each owner’s racing number applied to the steering wheel too. Oh, and a faded Italian flag on your bucket seats in tribute to a 20 years-worn Halfords accessory.
No word on price, but if you’ve just remembered you’re a handy Ferrari racer and you’re keen to discover how much more than the ‘standard’ Pista’s £253,715 you’ll have to fork out, the car’s being revealed at Le Mans this weekend.
