It’s The End of the Kahn Land Rover Defender

Kahn’s £50k, quilted bucket special marks the end (again) of Defender production

Published: 18 Apr 2016

The demise of the Land Rover Defender in February 2016 was a sad day for the landed British gentry, the armed forces, and the Red Cross. A vehicle that had once been their backbone had finally gone to the great garage in the sky.

But wait: won’t somebody think of the poor aftermarket tuning scene? What will they do without the venerable Landie?

Kahn Automobiles’ eulogy to the Defender is this fittingly titled ‘The End Edition’. Or, to give it the full moniker, the ‘Kahn Automobiles Land Rover Defender 2.2TDCi XS 90 The End Edition’. Maximum Scrabble points, there.

Limited to 50 examples – for which you’ll pay an appropriately round £50,000 – the er, ‘End’ is based around Kahn’s widebody conversion, squeezing 20-inch, 275-section tyres under the arches.

The 2.2-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder fitted as standard gets a mysterious power upgrade above its stock 122bhp, but Kahn doesn’t let on exactly what the output is. Mind you, with no word of better brakes on the lengthy, mostly cosmetic mod-list, ‘not much’ would be the optimum power increase.

Inside, there’s a pair of bucket front seats (diamond-quilted leather, naturally), a slightly Halfords-spec steering wheel, and drilled pedals. And is that some tweed trim we spy on the seats and grab handles? Perfect for maintaining some rural character when behind the wheel of a Defender.

So, for fifty grand, it’s one of these, or a brand-spanking new Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Which do you fancy?
