Morgan has made a special EV3...with Selfridges

Posh London shop and classic carmaker team up for electric 3-Wheeler

Published: 23 Jul 2016

This is the Morgan EV3, the all-electric plug-in 3-Wheeler we last cooed over in Cyclops-ish concept (yeah, right) form at the 2016 Geneva motor show. It’s back, with two eyes, sorry, headlights, and ready to be driven on the road. But there’s more. Meet the (big breath here) Morgan EV3 UK 1909 Edition. And it’s a product of that famous sports car tuning house, errr… Selfridges.

Some background info, you say? Selfridges is an iconic Oxford Street department store established in 1909 and synonymous with designer good bought by the rich and famous. And Morgan's first car was created in, you guessed it, 1909.

Keen to push an agenda of eco-friendliness, Selfridges approached Morgan when it got wind of the new zero-emission EV3 that’ll hit a top speed of 90mph and run for 120-150 miles on one charge. It ought to dodge the London congestion charge too.

Selfridges brings to the party nine items of designer gear forming a bespoke EV3 driving kit. There’s a Globetrotter trunk designed to fit the car’s luggage rack, a Christopher Raeburn waterproof overall, Alexander McQueen scarf, Linda Farrow driving goggles, plus gloves, a cotton jacket, some tweed, a fitted cap and of course, driving shoes by a smorgasbord of Made In Chelsea-spec names. The whole lot is manufactured in the UK.

So, nine items of driving kit, and 19 examples of this EV3 to be made. See why the ‘1909’ moniker is a good idea yet?

The EV3 will make its public debut at the Salon Prive car show in September, but the car can only be ordered via Selfridges itself. Happily, if you miss out on the street-legal car, Morgan’s also doing a ‘junior version’ of the EV3, which has just rocketed straight to the summit of TG.com’s Christmas list.
