Skoda Enyaq iV vRS sets world record for DRIFTING

Do not adjust your sets, a new Guinness World Record for the longest vehicle drift on ice has indeed been set by… the Skoda Enyaq iV vRS.

Actually, it’s two world records for the price of one, with the Enyaq’s 7.351km (4.568mi) run earning it top spot in the electric vehicle category too. Yep, there are categories in the longest drift on ice division.

The record surpasses the previous benchmark of 6.231km (3.872mi) set in China in 2022, with journalist Richard Meaden behind the wheel for the Enyaq’s attempt on a frozen lake in Krokom, Sweden on 19 January.

Completing 39 laps of a circular track, the SUV was sliding for a grand total of 15 minutes and 58 seconds, achieving a top speed of just over 30mph in the process.

It wasn’t the work of a moment either: the Enyaq was out there in sub-zero temperatures and minimal daylight hours for a total of five days, with lots of testing beforehand to find the right combination of studded tyres.

Skoda eventually bolted a set of Michelin-sourced 245/35-R20s with 600 5mm studs to the fronts, with a pair of 255/45-R20s at the rear boasting 300 2mm studs.

The Enyaq iV vRS is all-wheel drive of course, with its dual motors producing 295bhp and 339lb for 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds. Well, on tarmac at least.

This variant of the SUV is due to arrive in the UK early this summer, but if you can’t wait until then we’ve already driven the Coupe version on these shores.
