There's a new world record for... the fastest wheel change on a moving car
Want to see a seriously specific Guinness World Record? Watch the attempt here
Here’s a fact you might not know.
The managing director of Guinness Breweries – yes, that Guinness – came up with the idea behind the Guinness Book of Records purely to solve arguments.
But almost immediately following its inception in the Fifties, Guinness World Records (as it’s now known) has been something of a compendium of challenges to all the overcompetitive types in the world. Not saying it’s the fault of the book, but you can’t try to measure the sum of human achievement without also having to shrug and say ‘Well, I guess you can headbutt the most watermelons in a minute’.
Which, in far from record time, brings us to this particular record. It is the fastest wheel change on a moving car ever recorded, which required precision driving, car riding skills straight out of Death Proof and some creative interpretation of the AA handbook.
Was it a record we needed to know? Maybe not, but it’ll take bigger curmudgeons than we are to not acknowledge the seriously skilled driving on display. And if two Italian blokes want to dress up like Evel Knievel and do ‘Hal Needham x Roadside Assistance’ stunts, the least we can do is lift a pint in their honour.
