The new Ford Tourneo Courier is a proper MPV with petrol and electric powertrains

Chunky looks, proper MPV practicality and options in the engine department. Sounds great

Published: 16 May 2023

Ford has launched the latest addition to its Tourneo people-mover range. The Tourneo Courier is an all-new sibling to the Transit Courier van that'll offer MPV practicality and seating for five. And while the 123bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder version opens for orders this summer, an electric E-Tourneo Courier will be along in the second half of 2024.

Touted as the ‘future of Ford’, the electric Tourneo Courier promises a compelling combo of versatility and carbon-free smarts. For the former there's a medley of roof bars, hidden cubbies, practical seat fabric and boot pockets for dirty shoes (how thoughtful). The eco powertrain will feature a 134bhp electric motor and an as yet unspecified battery. Expect it to be around the 55kWh mark though. Ford says that there's 100kW DC charging and the ability to grab 54 miles of range in 10 minutes.

We’re told the exterior, with its short overhangs and boxy shape, has been designed from the ground up with the all-electric powertrain in mind and there's an electric-only shiny grille. There’s also a choice of Normal, Eco and, er, ‘Slippery’ drive modes – which means it should have enough traction to reach all of your favourite lifestyle activities.

Inside, Ford tells us there’s more shoulder and head height for all five passengers compared to the previous Tourneo Courier. What's more, the rear seats flip to accommodate bikes, luggage, outdoors clobber and furry friends. Oh, and there’s a 44-litre front trunk in the EV too.

Like TVs in living rooms, the 12-inch central display plays a pivotal role in the lounging experience. The infotainment suite is coupled with a full digital cluster panel, supported by remote over-the-air updates. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration is standard.

Thoughts on what Ford calls its new 'multi-activity vehicle' folks?
