The Buick Wildcat EV concept is a fantastic-looking 2+2 coupe

Is Buick about to get its mojo back? New concept previews its all-electric future

Published: 06 Jun 2022

Buick has announced that it’ll only sell EVs in America by 2030. We see you shrugging your shoulders over there, but if this new Wildcat EV concept is anything to go by, the company might just be about to become relevant again.

It’s a gorgeous 2+2 coupe that has apparently been “developed to convey the all-new design language that will influence Buick production models for the foreseeable future". Uh oh, that sounds suspiciously like ‘we won’t build anything like this for real’ to us.

Still, we’ll enjoy the Wildcat while we can. It’s low and wide with a wraparound windscreen, wild door/roof openings and a dramatically-sloping roofline. There’s a new signature face too with that sharp beak and low-mounted grille, plus rather fetching lights front and rear.

The concept also gets Buick’s newly updated logo and some of the best Jet Age-inspired wheels we’ve seen in ages.

Apparently there’s an external ‘state of charge’ indicator that’s shown in the rear window too, and Buick says the interior is (brace for nauseating press release speak) “delineated by a prominent console that extends from the base of the instrument panel to the rear seating area” and that it “uses unique graphic and colour contrasts to create the perception of visually floating elements intended to accentuate the cabin’s lightweight feel and spaciousness". But of course.

Looks brilliantly futuristic in there, particularly the green, white and orange colour scheme. How about bringing that to future production cars, Buick?
