Cracking a dial
On the left of the speedo is a dial that looks like a rev gauge, but isn’t a rev gauge. It’s taken me a few months, but I think I’ve finally cracked what it all means.
The green zone (9 to 12 o’clock): that’s when you’re running on electric only. Light blue: harvesting energy under braking. Dark blue: running on petrol – the further clockwise, the more power the combustion engine is generating.
All a bit complicated, but quite helpful. The Outlander does a pretty seamless job of juggling its power sources in the background, so it’s useful to know what its powertrain is up to. With one tiny exception. I still have no idea what the white section (12 to 1 o’clock) denotes. Some sort of petrol-electric neutral buffer zone, perhaps?
