Time to see if Genesis’ only bespoke EV cuts the electric mustard
Right, having sampled Genesis’ GV70 Electrified and found it to be the kind of gentle ‘meh’ that makes for incredibly unsatisfying review words, it’s time to try the car that I think might actually represent the brand a little better; the smaller, more funky GV60.
Now this is a car that is meant from the outset to be EV-only - sister cars on the E-GMP being Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and 6 and Kia’s EV6, EV9 and forthcoming EV3 - which bodes well. Because none of those cars are bad at all. And the basics are largely, brilliant; 800-volt charging with a 16-minute 10-80% time on a big enough charger. Some 483bhp and 4-ish second 0-62mph time, all-wheel drive, and 289-miles of lab range, presumably not all at the same time.
It also looks more striking and cohesive, if a bit challenging - it’s quite wide and stubby, with some interesting design choices. Not all of which land immediately, but we’ll see how we get on. We’ve got a 2024 Sport Plus in ‘Hanauma Mint’ (£740), with the Innovation Pack (£2,810), Navy Nappa leather (£250), a sunroof (£1,120) as well as lime-coloured brake calipers for 280 quid.
There are a few other options that swell the asking from £66,900 to £74,855 on-the-road. Gulp. So it’s time to see whether the Genesis is worth the extra, or you’d be better suited to one of those other siblings.
