Buying

What should I be paying?

The most basic Caddy Cargo Commerce begins at £17,800, minus VAT. A Commerce Plus bumps that to £19,275 ex-VAT, and the range-topping Commerce Pro with automatic lights, wipers, a 10-inch Discover Pro touchscreen and alloy wheels starts at £21,475 without VAT. Upgrading to the Maxi wheelbase costs £1,338 excluding VAT.

Prices across the board are around £1,000 higher than say, a Ford Transit Connect, mirroring the way a Golf costs a bit more than a Focus because it’s got a posher badge and a slightly better-hewn cabin.

Tell me about the standard kit.

All versions come as standard with at least a 6.5-inch touchscreen, electric windows, steering wheel media controls and an electric parking brake. As the entry-level version doesn’t get air-conditioning as standard, we’d give it the swerve. This is despite the official brochure insisting air-con comes as standard.

Assists like adaptive cruise control, road sign reading and lane-keep assist with blind-spot monitoring are all on the options list this time as safety features migrate across from VW’s car range.
