Buying

What should I be paying?

With seven trim levels to choose from, you’re in for a bit of a minefield. So let us simplify it for you: have an SRi. It looks a bit sportier, you can have it with either the 110 or 145bhp 1.2 engine (but not the 130, oddly), the extra power is only £550, and for £22,445 plus a bit extra if you want some tasty options, you’ve got what you need.

Looking higher up? Ask yourself how much you actually need a front camera system and wireless charging. This is a Vauxhall Astra, not a Range Rover, you won’t get your money back at trade in time. Not that you’ll be too worried about that – the vast majority of Astras will be leased. So don’t overspend on the monthly repayments to have something you’re not going to use or appreciate. That said, given half a chance the Bose sound system and IntelliLux LED Matrix headlights are both well worth having.
