Interior
What is it like on the inside?
As with the outside, not much has changed inside the Astra. On the whole it’s a smart place to be, with a flush-fitting touchscreen and slivers of silver to break up the piano black. There are a handful of shortcut buttons below the central screen, and two thumb pads on the steering wheel. That’s all reasonably logical.
The dash of the high-spec Elite Nav could be simpler – it’s part analogue, part screen, with an awkward overlap and too much information. Lower spec cars are simpler and more easily legible at a glance.
The driving position is fine, the cabin is light and airy, the steering wheel perhaps a little on the large side and not instantly comfortable to hold. Generally speaking, more padding – in the firm seat and armrests – wouldn’t go amiss.
Phone integration is very good for both Apple and Android devices, cabin space is fine for four adults and up to 370 litres of your luggage can come along too. And overflow which doesn’t fit in the boot might just fit in one of the stowage bins.
