Driving

What is it like to drive?

You mean flying, of course. Provided you have a private pilot’s licence and several years of ballooning experience, operation is really very simple.

Top speed is an unhurried 17mph, which is fine so long as the air is still. But fly into a headwind greater than 13 knots and you will actually go backwards, or just blow around a bit. In the latter case, there’s an outside chance you will illegally enter the airspace of Norwich International Airport and be escorted away by a police helicopter, but otherwise there’s not much to worry about.

After a mostly controlled descent it’s also easy to park, unless you suddenly lose altitude and get caught in a strong gust that drags you helplessly through a potato field, three miles from your intended destination.
