You can order a Toyota GR Yaris right now
Prime your credit card…online order books have opened for the rally-rep GR Yaris
Some lucky souls have already bagged themselves a GR Yaris by leaving their homes and visiting an actual dealership… when such things were open. But if you’ve used lockdown to successfully convince yourself a £30k Yaris is just what you need, then fear not, friend, you can still place an order for Toyota’s rally-rep via the wondrous internet.
Simply visit Toyota’s special website, choose your colour and trim, nominate your local dealer, pay a £1,500 deposit and BOOM… you’re on the list.
Prices for the homologation special kick off at £29,995 – for that you get 1.6-litres, three-cylinders, 257bhp, four-wheel drive and six forward gears. For £33,495 the GR Yaris Circuit Pack adds forged alloys shod with sticky Michelin rubber, circuit-tuned suspension, red-painted brake callipers and a pair of Torsen LSDs.
It is a lot of money for a tiny, little car. But remember the GR Yaris is a serious item, much more so than a similarly-sized Fiesta ST. Besides the clever engine, trick all-wheel drive system and those two Torsen diffs, it has an entirely bespoke, lighter body shell with a 95mm lower roofline, a carbon-fibre roof and much wider track than standard. It is like no Yaris you’ve ever seen before. Read our early drive of the homologation special by clicking on these words.
