You can buy this Arctic-ready Isuzu pick-up in the UK
Attention explorers! Arctic Trucks' modified Isuzu D-Max is a serious bit of kit
Arctic Trucks is an Icelandic company that specialises in taking already fairly capable pick-ups and SUV and making them more, erm, capable. Capable enough to cross whole glaciers, in fact.
Even better? You can buy Arctic Trucks’ modified vehicles from proper, official dealers in places like Russia and Norway. And now, the UK. From late spring, you’ll be able to walk out of your local Isuzu dealer (what do you mean you don’t have one?) with one of these - the D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35.
Hardware changes for the AT35 include serious Fox Performance Series shocks and special 35-inch Nokian Rotiiva tyres. The combined effect of the tyres and shocks is a 125mm lift in ride height – plus a load more width - check out the arches – and therefore better approach and departure angles. Improved underbody protection, LED work lights and a tyre inflator are options.
Prices start at £30,995, and for that you get an unmodified 2.5-litre twin-turbo diesel with 161bhp and 295lb ft, plus either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. The one-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacities of the standard truck remain, too. You can have a double or extended cab, and standard kit is plentiful.
So a well-equipped five-seater that can cross the Arctic. Surely this, not a coupe-SUV, is the very definition of crossover?
As you can see, it’s a serious bit of kit. Overkill, maybe, for anyone who lives in, say, the Yorkshire Dales. We still would though…
