The final Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has been sold…

...and raised a million quid for charity

Published: 09 Oct 2017

The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet is quite possibly the most heroically outrageous new car of the past year. Or decade, at a stretch. A part drop-top, long-wheelbase G-Wagen with portal axles, a 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 and ride height measured in stories is as unnecessary, and ostentatious, as cars get. Utterly, thoroughly inappropriate, in 2017. Obviously, we had to have a go in one of the 99 examples built. And we did just that. You can read about it here.

Anyway, this very car, ex of Top Gear photoshoot fame, was auctioned this week by Bonham’s in Belgium. Where the 'standard' version sold for around €630,000, the final, TG-immortalised car was auctioned off for €1.2m, or £1.07million.

That’s quite a mark-up for the anonymous (not for much longer) Belgian collector to pay, but their fee will be paid to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. At long last, one of these monstrous Gs has done some good for the world.

Just bought it? Read what Top Gear made of the G650 here…
