Watch Ken Block’s Cossie rip through Oregon

Sir Hoonigan drifts his way onto the podium on his epic Escort’s first outing

Published: 02 May 2018

We’ve shown you Ken Block’s nineties-tastic Escort RS Cosworth rally car before. Twice actually. Once in flat white, but more recently with its awesome zig-zaggy Death Spray Custom livery.

Ken recently took his pristine car out of the garage and got it nicely grubby by hammering it around some of Americas finest forestries as part of the Oregon Trail Rally. As you can see from the awesome images above, he wasn’t hanging about. No matter the potty prices big-winged Escorts are going for these days.

Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino ended up on the podium, taking third place overall. First went to the factory-supported WRX STI of David Higgins and Craig Drew, while second place went to Jeff Seehorn and Karen Jankowski, also driving an STI. Not bad for a car in its late twenties, eh?

Ken’s Cossie is an honest example with 2.0-litre turbocharged (big, laggy nineties turbo) four-pot up front with somewhere in the 350/400bhp region, connected to a seven-speed sequential gearbox sending power to all four wheels via a complicated active diff system.

The wheels (Fifteen52 Tarmacs) and tyres (Toyo R1Rs) are a modern touch, but one peep inside reveals a world of countless switches, showcasing that this is indeed a child of the nineties. That little switch to the left of the steering wheel activates the anti-lag, which, when fired up, emits sweet chants of goodness from the exhaust.

If you want to see Ken shred American trails for yourself, you’re in luck as it’s entering three rallies in the US this year. Having ticked off the Oregon Trail Rally, Ken will be shipping it to the New England Forest Rally in the summer, and the Idaho Rally International this fall to compete against all the modern boys.

As it’s a while until its next outing, you may as well get the stage footage above on repeat. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
