This 3,500bhp Huracan will destroy a Bugatti Chiron
Underground Racing’s twin-turbo Lamborghini has set a new half-mile world record
You don’t need a first-class honours degree in Common Sense to know that the Bugatti Chiron is a fast car. But what happens if you don’t have common sense? And you like going really, really, really fast? Well, you probably work for Underground Racing.
The American tuning outfit is notorious for turning fast supercars up to a bazillion (normally via forced induction) to make stupidly, ridiculously fast supercars. Case in point, Underground Racing's new twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracan. As standard, the V10 Huracan produced 603bhp. This one? 3,500bhp. Yep, three thousand five hundred. That’s nearly six times the normal power output. What does that equate to in speed? Simple answer: loads.
Recently, while on the start line of the half-mile drag strip at the ShiftSector Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack in Colorado Springs, Underground Racing's owner Kevin "KC" Howeth pointed the Lambo at the horizon and uncorked everything the Huracan had. Having got over the terrifying verocity of the first, second and third gear change, the Lambo got into its stride and entered warp speed. Crossing the line half a mile later, the yellow sleeper of a Lambo was doing 259.6mph – a new world record.
As a bit of perspective, when Koenigsegg set its top-speed record last year, the Agera RS driven by factory test driver Niklas Lilja (that recorded a two-way average speed of 277.9 mph) needed just over one mile to hit 249mph. The Lambo did more than that in half the distance. Think a four-wheel-drive Chiron could do better? Think again. Bugatti’s 1,479bhp hypercar can only manage a measly 189mph in the same distance this Lambo does 260. Yikes.
Now your jaw is suitably dropped, check out the footage for yourself above. Would you sign up for a ride in this looney Lambo? Let us know in the comments below.
