The Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution has set a new lap record at the Circuit of the Americas

Rather astonishingly the Venom's time was a whole seven seconds quicker than a McLaren P1

Published: 25 Mar 2024

Take note, Europe: the track-focused Hennessey Venom F5 ‘Revolution’ has just lapped the 3.41-mile-long Circuit of the Americas (COTA) with a time of 2m10.9s. That beats the previous record holder, the Czinger 21C, by nearly half a second, and betters the McLaren P1 by a scarcely believable seven seconds.

The Revolution - which weighs around 1,360kg - adopts some heavy aero enhancements over the 'standard' Venom F5. You'll have noticed the giant carbon rear wing and revised front splitter and rear diffuser. Dive planes have also been incorporated to improve grip, while a roof-mounted central scoop feeds more air to the engine.

Speaking of which, no real changes have been made to the 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8, dubbed ‘Fury’. But that’s just fine because the standard 1,817bhp and 1,193lb ft of torque proved enough to get the Revolution to a massive 193mph along COTA’s main straight. Yikes.

Fancy some number crunching? Hennessey says the Revolution managed to pull a positive 1.59G through COTA's corners and a negative 1.61 under braking, courtesy of road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres and carbon ceramic Brembo brakes. That’s a lot.

John Hennessey, founder and CEO of the company, said: “We don’t do these things because they are easy, we do them because they are hard. The process of pushing our American hypercar to the limits makes our team of engineers, designers and technicians better while also delivering an enhanced product and experience to our clients. We look forward to continuing the journey and pushing the Venom F5 to set new speed records in the future.”

Yep, you read that right folks. Having proven the F5 Venom’s mettle on track, Hennessey is finally setting its sights on proving its 300mph claim. This should be interesting…
