The Shelby Super Snake F-150 monster truck starts from £167,940

Carroll Shelby would have been 100 years old today. To celebrate the anniversary of his birth – also known as ‘a birthday’ – official Shelby American retailer Clive Sutton has revealed prices for the wild F-150 Super Snake.

“What a way to start this special year with a big, powerful American truck,” Mr Sutton said. Indeed. The Shelby’s a monster. Officially called the ‘Shelby Super Snake F-150’, it takes the Ford F-150 as its base (obviously), and adds many, many horses.

The 5.0-litre V8 gets very supercharged thanks to Shelby’s upgrade, pushing power just north of 775bhp, matched to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. There’s a new suspension setup optimised for both on- and off-road driving replete with Fox shocks, 22in wheels and special Shelby bumpers and badges.

Naturally there’s more specialness inside courtesy of two-tone seats offset against carbon fibre trim, tinted windows and perhaps the most important modification of all – racing pedals. Perhaps the tint is to shy away from the ram-air induction vents on the bonnet, or indeed the dual stripes running the length of the F-150. Or from the fact you’re in a 775bhp V8 monster truck.

Should the mood arise, then, Sutton has you covered. Of the 300 Shelby F-150s available globally, the UK via Sutton will receive a hearty six. The single cab Shelby Super Snake Sport starts from £167,940 (including VAT), while the Super Snake double cab starts from £191,940 (for the ‘on-road version’), or £189,540 for the off-road truck. There’s a three-year warranty thrown in, too.
