New TG magazine out now: it’s… The Fast Issue

Like speed? Love manual gearboxes? The V12-engined Aston Martin Valour has you covered

Published: 03 Jul 2024

Analogue, simpler, retro experiences are making a comeback. From swapping Spotify for LPs, smartphones for burners, digital cameras for film... it’s everywhere, and the movement is gathering momentum. Nowhere more so than in the world of cars, where buttonless interiors, endless screens and near identical EV powertrains have numbed us to the point of indifference.

Enter a handful of manufacturers who get it. That desirability and perceived value doesn’t come from 0–62mph times and software updates, it’s from enriching the driving experience with manual gearboxes and distinctive combustion engines. Or, in the case of the Bugatti Tourbillon, extreme mechanical complexity – from the Swiss watch dials to the hybrid V16 power unit. This issue, then, is a celebration of fast... in all its multifaceted glory.

Our cover story this month is a first drive of the V12-engined, manual gearboxed Aston Martin Valour, and we decided it’d be wise to bring along a more budget-conscious rival – the £231,600 Porsche 911 S/T.

Then there’s full tests of two track toys that are fighting for the attention of the world’s billionaires – the Ford GT MkIV and the single-seat McLaren Solus GT. Or, if you want something that can do road and track, you’ll want to read our twin-test of the McLaren 750S and the Ferrari 296 GTB. But hang on a second, because if it’s really big power you want you’d better pay a visit to deepest Wisconsin. There you’ll find Ringbrothers – the family firm building scary horsepower monsters and genre twisting freaks.

So, why not make like this issue and grab a copy fast…
