New TG magazine out now: flat out in the Merc-AMG GT R

Here's the ultimate Top Gear bucket list: 50 things to do before you die

Published: 25 Jan 2017

New Year's resolutions already fallen by the wayside? Fear not. May we present to you something far more interesting and with an extended time-frame. Yes, in this month's issue of Top Gear magazine, we bring you the ultimate 50 motoring experiences to try in your lifetime.

Heading up our list is driving a supercar: we show you how with a go in Mercedes-AMG's new 577bhp GT R in Portugal. Finished in a fetching shade of Hulk-green, we gave Ollie Marriage one simple instruction: smash. Pick up a copy of the issue to see how it fared...

Other things on this ultimate car-based bucket list? Drive a convertible. Heck, drive the Nürburgring. Go to a drag race. Um, get adopted by Jay Leno. A long shot, sure...

The February issue of Top Gear magazine is on sale now in supermarkets and newsagents. Or you can download the digital edition with extra images and videos here.

We also show you how to do the ultimate track day, driving Audi’s astonishing R18 LMP1 car, before heading off-road in the Californian desert to attempt to jump the new Ford F-150 Raptor. There's also the small matter of becoming, um, a Top Secret Lamborghini Test Driver: we go for a spirited run in the new Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

On the slightly more achievable end of things, there's a drive along the classic Grossglockner Pass, getting tooled up, seeing Formula One and NASCAR races, visiting the Petersen Auto Museum in LA, getting some pro driver training, going ice driving, giving electric cars a go, visiting the Goodwood Revival and getting to meet your hero.

In other news we head Stateside to drive the lightweight (900kg) and powerful (680bhp) Lucra, pick out our highlights from the Detroit motor show - including the new Kia Stinger - and see just how far has Skoda come in two decades. Almost to the Moon and back, it would seem. Good job. We check out the ultimate snow-proof vehicles and debate the new VW I.D Buzz: retro cool or dodgy imitation?

Plus we drive all the cars that matter – including the Nisan GT-R Nismo, Audi R8, Ford Focus RS Mountune, Mini Clubman JCW, Toyota GT86, Porsche Panamera 4S, Aston Martin Vanquish S, Renault Megane Sport Tourer GT, and pit the Audi S5 against the Mercedes-AMG C43.
