The Jaguar XJR 15 was ace and this picture proves it

Classic Jags headline festival of classic 90s racing goodness

Published: 26 Jul 2016

As far as one-make racing series go, Jaguar Sport's 1991 'Intercontinental Challenge' surely ranks as one of the coolest. The short-lived series was a support act for three races on the Formula One calendar. And not just any three races, but the marquee events held at Monaco, Silverstone and Spa. To race here, you need something fast. And cool. Step forward the XJR 15.

It had a Kevlar and carbonfibre body designed by Peter Stevens (recognise the name? he went on to design the McLaren F1). It had a 6.0-litre V12 pushing out 450bhp. It was raced by such luminaries as Derek Warwick, Juan Manuel Fangio II, David Brabham and Tiff Needell. And, frankly, looked quite excellent.

Now, two of these legendary Jags will appear at Silverstone, for the, um, Silverstone Classic, held this weekend. They'll join more than 30 sports cars representing the very best of the 90s racing scene. Other notable entrants include the Ferrari 575 GTC Evo, a 333 SP, a Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, Maserati Barchetta, Saleen S7R, McLaren F1 GTR, Chrysler Viper GTS-R and a Dallara-Judd SP1.

They're all in the pics above. Tell us those Jags haven't immediately rocketed back near the top of your ultimate racing car wish list.
