This is the new Audi Q6 e-tron, with prices starting from £69k

The Audi Q6 e-tron has finally landed and will be on sale in the UK from 30 April. The entry-level Quattro will be priced at £68,975, while the more dramatic SQ6 pushes this to £92,950. We expect a full-bore RSQ6 shouldn’t be too far away, either.

It’s the first model to use Audi’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) technology that’s been jointly developed with Porsche, and employed here to target the mid-sized electric SUV segment. In other words, Tesla Model Y territory.

Power is provided by a pair of electric motors, which deliver 382bhp and allows a 5.9s sprint to 62 in the Q6. This jumps to a peak of 509bhp in the SQ6 when launch control is enabled, and brings the 0-62mph time down to just 4.3s.

The 100kWh battery can also provide up to 381 miles of range - around 50 more than the Model Y - while 158 miles of range can be added in just 10 minutes, and a 10-80 per cent recharge is dispatched in 21.

Let’s talk design, where Audi’s familiar combination of long wheelbase and short overhangs remain. So you’ve got bulky wheel arches, plenty of indentations and fissures running along the bodywork and sharp Matrix lights out front. The front also features a closed single frame and mask that can be finished in either silver or black and runs parallel to the thick grille. The air inlets on either side of this are also noticeably different to the rest of the e-tron range.

And, yes, you also get the fancy schmancy tail lights out back. It’s a single-bar unit which uses Audi’s second-generation digital OLED lamps, comprising six panels with over 360 individual segments that’ll do the full range of animations to prove you’re superior to every other road user.

As you’d expect, there’s plenty to discuss inside the cabin. Aside from the quilted seats, ambient lighting and the flush of fancy (partially recycled) materials, the Q6 uses Audi’s freestanding panoramic screen, which merges an 11.9in augmented driver’s display with a 14.5in multimedia unit - the latter using Android Automotive OS as its operating system. There’s also a 10.9in display for the front passenger, which they can use to stream movies or find out what the current distance record for competitive Audi driver tailgating is.

As an added treat, you also get the new and improved voice-controlled Audi Assistant, which can understand over 800 commands. It’ll work in tandem with the 22-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio set, offering up to 830 watts of power and likely meaning you’ll never need to attend another concert again.

Safety functions are also plentiful as standard, ranging from swerve and turn assist to autonomous emergency braking, and even lane change and exit warning. The pick of the bunch, though, will be the Park Assist Plus. When toggled, the car will steer, throttle and eventually switch off the motor unassisted, so it’s ideal for those who tend to swap paint even in 10-metre-long spaces.

Rounding off the notable features is the 526 litres of storage space, with an extra 1,000 litres freed up once the rear bench is folded. The frunk adds another 64 litres to this, so altogether, there’s plenty of room to gather your old records and vinyls for transportation to the tip, since you won’t have any use for those any more…
