Need a lift? Meet the latest off-road kit for the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4²
Form and function collide with delta4x4’s latest project, which costs a smudge over £30,000
German off-road specialist delta4x4 has released its latest skunkworks project, which is based on the already dramatic Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4² and dubbed the “Hoch D”.
Delta began by raising the standard car by 50mm before equipping it with a specifically designed lift kit that allows drivers to raise the car by a further 100mm - if and when needed - to a maximum height of 225cm.
The reward for all this palaver is the ability to fit chunky 37-inch tyres - which automatically makes you better than everyone else at the dinner party. Seriously, this does now mean the Hoch D has an approximate ground clearance of 300mm, which is quite the party trick for adventure junkies and those who prefer the nomadic approach. Or if you’re facing a particularly steep kerb.
Delta has also furnished the off-roader with an all-new roof rack that has a four-pronged light strip incorporated into it. However, we can’t help but feel this will be little more than a commodity to flaunt, given that most customers will be the sort of people who prefer midnight prowls through neon-lit cities as opposed to dune-bashing.
In terms of pricing, the lift kit itself will set you back around £15,256 (or €17,500), while the extended wheel arches come in at £4,795 (€5,500). A further £1,133 (€1,300) must be parted with for the Eibach suspension.
Lastly, and perhaps the most painful, is the cost of the off-road tyres, which can range from £4,100 (€4,800) for the entry-level rubber to as much as £8,979 (€10,300) for the fancy 20-inch Beadlock “Force” wheels. Perhaps they’ll help you get from that Michelin-star restaurant to the nearest shisha bar a few seconds quicker?
This brings us to a grand total of £30,164 (€34,600) for a Hoch D conversion. In other words, the difference in price is enough to land you one of Top Gear’s former Car of the Year winners: the Hyundai i20N. Decisions, decisions…
