This is the facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan

Crossover lovers rejoice, Europe’s best-selling SUV gets new bumpers and headlights

Published: 30 Jun 2020

Last year, a brand-new Volkswagen Tiguan rolled off the production line every 35 seconds in one of four factories across the globe. Yep, the world has gone crossover mad.

Now though, Volkswagen has the tricky task of giving this second-generation a facelift, and as you might expect it has played things very safe indeed. This is Facelift 101 – new bumpers front and rear, new headlights, a new infotainment system and fresh powertrains. No messing.

There are four trim levels for the facelifted Tiguan, with Life, Elegance and R-Line specs sitting above the base model. All get new LED headlights, the VW SUV-family grille and a higher bonnet up at the front, as well as a new infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen, an optional Harman/Kardon sound system and touch-buttons for the climate controls on the inside.

The powertrains are where things get slightly more interesting. That’s because, as well as introducing the hot Tiguan R (which you can read about by clicking these blue words), VW has also announced the Tiguan eHybrid – a plug-in hybrid with 242bhp and the ability to travel 31 miles on electric power alone. The usual range of petrols and diesels with both four- and two-wheel drive will also feature.

As we’ve come to expect these days, the updated Tiguan arrives with some fresh driver assistance tech too. The new Travel Assist system will apparently take complete control of the car on the motorway at speeds of up to 130mph by using the adaptive cruise control and lane assist systems, although a touch sensitive steering wheel means the driver has to keep their hands on the wheel.

What do we reckon to the new look, Internet?
