You can buy Mario Andretti’s Lamborghini Countach
Now is your chance to own an icon that’s been driven by an icon
Mario Andretti is a legend in the motorsport fraternity. In the world of supercars, the Lamborghini Countach is a legend. So – using simple Top Gear Maths – this Lamborghini Countach formally owned by Mario Andretti must be a legend squared. And now it can be yours.
As you probably well know, Mario Andretti is a Formula 1 World Champion, NASCAR Daytona 500 winner, Le Mans 24 Hour winner, and Indianapolis 500 winner. But he’s also a Lambo lover. When he wasn’t whizzing around circuits collecting silverware, he was blatting around town in one of his many Lamborghinis. Over the years, Mario has owned: a 1989 Anniversary Countach, a 1991 Diablo, a Murcielago, an Aventador, and this stunning 1984 Countach which is now going up for sale.
It’s the later 5000S version of the iconic wedgy lump first scene in the Seventies – so has a 5.0-litre longitudinally mounted V12 good for 371bhp and 180mph if you’re brave enough. But being an early carbureted Countach, it’s got a richer, more organic soundtrack than later fuel-injected versions that went to the US. It’s also finished in the proper colour scheme: red with tan. But this one has a special touch as the original paint is complimented with a unique pinstripe incorporating Mario Andretti's logo. His logo also adorns the tops of the wing mirrors.
Recently given a full mechanical refurb, this Countach is apparently in tip-top shape and comes with the original tool kit, including gloves and the spectacularly named Thor hammer. Now, there may be 321 Lambo 5000S' in the world, but only one of those was owned by Mario Andretti. This one. And if you’ve got £400k, it can be yours. Tempted?
