The very first AMG One is ready for delivery
AMG’s first production hypercar is on its way to a customer. Wonder if there’s a ‘leave it in a safe place’ option?
After a delay that rivals Tool albums, Coppola films and perhaps even Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia Basilica, the very first Mercedes-AMG One is finally, finally heading to its rightful owner.
Well, we’re assuming it’s the rightful owner, given that the AMG One is something of a rare and rather expensive fish – just 275 will be built, and each cost somewhere around £2.3 million. So we’re assuming AMG has double-checked the delivery address.
As Mercedes-AMG announced on its Facebook (what is this, 2009?), getting the first 1,049bhp supercar ready for delivery was “the final highlight of 2022". We’re guessing that other highlights in 2022 included ‘finding something to talk about other than F1, because it’s way less fun now for some reason’ and ‘making it to 2023 with only half the staff suffering from burnout’. But we’ve been wrong before.
If you cast your mind way back to when the AMG One was called the Project One, you’ll remember that it’s derived from Sir Hamilton’s decidedly dominant Formula One car. Which means that, as long as the journey from Project to One might have been, it’s unlikely to be tardy from here on in.
In fact, the only delay left for the AMG One is how long before one heads to auction...
