For sale: a rare Koenigsegg Regera fitted with over $1m in options
A rare example of Sweden’s hybrid hypercar with 1,479bhp has come up for auction
One of the world’s fastest, rarest cars – which just happens to be a hybrid and is therefore congestion charge exempt – is up for auction. A rare opportunity then, to purchase a very rare car – the Koenigsegg Regera.
The hyper-exotic, carbon-bodied wonderthing, the work of Christian von Koenigsegg and team, has been listed on Bring a Trailer wearing an outlandish ‘candy liquid blue’ paintjob and more than a million dollars’ worth of options.
It currently resides in Texas, having covered just 651 miles since new. Which means that 5.0-litre V8/triple electric motor setup and direct drive transmission has barely been touched. Fresh out of the box – much like this one – Koenigsegg quotes 1,479bhp and 1,465lb ft of torque which feels… sufficient.
Translated into known benchmarks, that means 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 250mph. “The thing we’ve realised is that chasing the ultimate top speed is starting to become a nonsense,” CvK told TG back in 2016, “so our philosophy is more like this: whoever gets to 250mph first, wins.”
So translated into known madness, Koenigsegg projects it’ll go from 0-250mph in 20 seconds. Like we said, feels about… sufficient.
We’re told this particular car features the ‘Ghost Package’ (a deeper front spoiler and rear winglets for better downforce) and ‘Environmental Power Upgrade’ (more power when running on E85), with bids currently sitting at $2.6m. A lot of money, sure, but on the other hand… you’ll avoid the congestion charge. So there’s that.
