The first Ford GT Heritage Edition is being auctioned off

...for charity. United Way will sell VIN 001 in January next year

Published: 16 Nov 2018

The 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition looks tremendous. Of this there can be no doubt. Now, the very first one is being auctioned off for charity next year.

Barrett-Jackson will host the sale, with United Way for Southeastern Michigan auctioning off the car with the VIN 001 inscription. A car that celebrates Ford’s famous victory over Ferrari all those years ago at Le Mans.

Specifically, the cars that won Le Mans in 1968 and 1969, where the GT40s were sponsored by Gulf Oil. The 2019 GT then, picks up the same livery, along with exposed carbon fibre accents inside and out. There are also 20in one-piece forged aluminium wheels, orange brake calipers and silver rearview mirror caps.

Underneath, there's a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with a big, meaty 647bhp and 550lb ft of torque. That’s allied to a seven-speed twin clutch gearbox and rear-wheel-drive. As we discovered a while back, it’s really rather good – one of the best handling hardcore supercars out there. You can read our full review of the GT here.

Of the upcoming sale, United Way’s CEO Darienne Driver said: “This incredible donation will allow us to enhance our efforts toward ensuring more families in underserved communities across southeast Michigan have access to the resources they need to thrive.”
