Pull over! It's the police Huracan

Eyes on your rear-view mirror, it’s the new Lamborghini Huracan police car.

Depending on the strength of your predilection to flouting the law, it presents either the latest in a pleasingly offbeat lineage of blues-and-twos supercars, or the latest instalment of pure, scary evil. We’re in the former camp, obviously…

While Dubai’s police force has a fleet of slightly ridiculous ‘show cars’ – you may have seen its Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari FF and even a super-rare Aston Martin One-77 with lights and stripes – the Italian road traffic cops regularly press their Lambos into service.

This Huracan follows a handful of Gallardos, which plough the autostradas for pesky speeding drivers. It will also be on hand to provide the escorts on car-centric special occasions such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Floria.

It shares is blue and white Polizia livery with the more mundane Alfa 159s that typically prowl Italian streets, while under the skin is the same 602bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine, seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox and four-wheel-drive transmission you’ll find in customer Huracans.

That means a 3.2sec 0-62mph sprint and 202mph top speed. So if you’re intent on tearing through Italy making mischief, ensure you’re in one of the small band of supercars and hypercars that can outrun that.
