Here's a Ferrari covered in rave paint

Published: 09 Oct 2014

There's a lot going on at Ferrari at the moment, what with its new boss, new F1 driver and new convertible supercar. But amongst all this, the Italian carmaker is keen you don't forget about perhaps its most bread and butter product, the relatively big-selling California.

The 'My First Ferrari' has had an update this year, the new California T ushering in Ferrari's second era of turbocharging. Yet we'd forgive you if it nestled beneath Marchionne, Vettel and the 458 Speciale A in your conscience.

But Ferrari wants to fix that, and it appears it has done so... by taking the Cali T out clubbing and covering it in rave paint.

What's actually going on in the video above is the dark art of aerodynamics: spraying a car with UV paint and plonking it in a wind tunnel is a very visual way to analyse its aerodynamics. The fact that it ends up looking like a fresher who's had too many luminous alcopops and liberally lacquered itself in neon psychedelia is just an excellent bonus.

The end result is probably the most exciting California we've yet seen; whether you'll be able to replicate it by printing out some screen shots and requesting a special order paint scheme at your local dealer is another matter entirely.
