The McMurtry Spéirling has SMASHED Top Gear’s 20-year lap record

The Koenigsegg Jesko and Aston Martin Valkyrie left some mighty big footprints at Dunsfold, but McMurtry’s mighty little Spéirling has danced its way around them to record a blistering new lap time.

Welcome, friends of Top Gear, to the fastest ever car to lap the TG test track.

With our tame, white-suited driver behind the wheel, the 1,000bhp fan-assisted Spéirling managed an incredible time of 55.9s, making it 3.1s faster than the previous record holder. That car you’ll remember, was the Renault R24 F1 car from 2004.
