Skoda unveils the Citigo Sport

Published: 27 Feb 2013

Is Skoda trying to out-Up the Seat Mii? We only say this because today, we bring you fresh news about the new Skoda Citigo ‘Sport'.

It's a new trim level that takes the Citigo's SE spec as base, and adds 15in alloy wheels, fog lights, tinted windows and two very important things: a racing stripe (that visually adds at least 100bhp) and new sports suspension lowered by 15mm.

This is interesting, because it hints that the Citigo Sport should be more adept at charging around like a loon, when all you can think and talk about to your Volkswagen Up-owning friends is lift-off oversteer and nudging apexes and dabbing on brakes and so forth. Something the Seat Mii - the sportier of the city car triumvirate - might object to.

Three colours are available - white with red stripes, red with black stripes, or black with red stripes - while you also get black and red sports seats, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, leather handbrake and gearstick gaiter, and a nice little dashboard-mounted ‘personal infotainment device'. It's a 5-in touchscreen that features sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity, vehicle/trip info and a media player to sync to your iFace.

No change on the 1.0-litre 59bhp engine, though. Prices start at £9,725 for the three-door version, and £10,075 for the five-door. Bear in mind we thought the standard Citigo rode a tad firmly, so could the Sport be the tipping point?

And is this sullying the very premise of a Skoda Citigo, or do you want more power and more stiffness and more hardness?
