Kia has taken a very mean Stinger GT to SEMA

A tuned Kia? At SEMA? Riding on 22s? Yep, the Stinger's really changed things

Published: 31 Oct 2018

The Kia Stinger is doing an awful lot for its maker’s image, and further proof has arrived at the SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas.

This is the DUB Stinger GT, a V6 saloon car given a raft of mods that – in Kia’s words – “take it to unexpected places inside, outside and under the hood”.

Inside, there’s a new red leather and black suede interior complemented by a humongous stereo, though all of it’s hidden by newly tinted windows. Which Kia's chosen not to send its photographer past, sadly.

Outside, the Stinger gets a menacing new widebody kit which comes wrapped in brushed steel with carbon details. It looks little short of outrageous. Who could have imagined wheel arches like this on a Kia ten years ago? And that they’d look so right with 22in Dropstars alloys squeezed into their every last nook and cranny?

Under the hood – which you’ll note is carbon – sits the GT’s 3.3-litre V6 turbo. It appears its 365bhp has remained intact, given the big modification here is described as an “underhood dress-up kit”. Being from the other side of the pond, we’re confused as to what that entails, particularly on the day of trick or treating.

But given how easily the Stinger swings its tail with its standard power output, we can cope with DUB’s engine tweaks seemingly amounting to some lights and shininess. There is a new air suspension set-up, however. Probably necessary to help the Stinger cope with how slammed upon thos 22s it suddenly finds itself.
