Boreham’s new-old Ford Escort Mk1 will get a petrol engine and manual 'box
And judging by this teaser, it'll also get... some headlights. Full reveal on 12 Dec
A company that specialises in reviving classic old cars for the modern age has revealed its upcoming classic revived for the modern age will shun electrical or hybrid power and feature a petrol engine. Two versions, actually. And a manual gearbox.
You’ll see this engine – and the gearbox and the car that contains it all – next week, so before that happens, here’s yet another teaser of Boreham Motorworks’s upcoming Ford Escort Mk1 revival. TopGear.com can exclusively and confidently reveal the new car will have… some headlights.
It’ll also have a fruity powertrain. According to BM, it’ll draw “design and performance inspiration from each of the high-performance Escort Mk1 variants that graced the roads of Europe and dominated the world of motorsport”.
It’ll apparently be the “ultimate expression of the RS-lineage”, built as a successor to the rip-roaring original car. We know Boreham will use Ford’s original blueprints to revive the old-timer and construct it in a ‘period-sympathetic’ manner.
Iain Muir, boss of DRVN Automotive (that owns Boreham), said: “At DRVN, we understand that true automotive passion comes from the connection between driver and machine - a relationship forged in the sound, feel, and response of a car designed to be driven.”
Sounds like it’ll be a riot. Stay tuned…
