Ayrton Senna’s red Honda NSX is up for sale for half a million quid
Senna’s old Portuguese NSX now lives in the UK, and you could own it… for a big chunk of change
Ayrton Senna reportedly owned no less than three Honda NSXs. A pair of black V6 versions, and this red one that he kept at his home in Portugal. Now, this very car – the car that a three-time Formula One world champion sat, drove and did wheelspins in – could very well be yours.
Assuming you have half a million quid to spare and a great relationship with your local tyre supplier. Welcome to today’s edition of Fantasy Classified Car Shopping, featuring a celebrity guest: an old Japanese two-door supercar!
Much has been written and eulogised about the Honda NSX. And while it was very good indeed, truth be told, it turned into the car it always should have been in its final, NSX-R iteration, transforming from a respectable, fast and mild-mannered supercar into a properly brilliant racer.
Speaking of which, much has been written and eulogised about Ayrton Senna. And truth be told… it probably still doesn’t do justice to a driver considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time.
So, that Senna chose an NSX as his personal car a) speaks volumes of how good it was, and b) points to his commercial relationship with Honda. Indeed, the big man provided input into the NSX’s development during its final stages.
The current owner of the car – one Robert McFagan who hails from East Sussex – first bought it in 2013 during a trip to the Algarve, and he’s owned it ever since. “It’s been a real pleasure owning what is one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sporting legend,” McFagan said.
Indeed, as part of an anniversary commemorating Senna’s tragic death, this red NSX was driven by Giancarlo Minardi at Imola back in 2019 in front of a horde of Senna fans. It’ll go back on display later this year between 23-25 August at a Senna exhibition at Silverstone. So it’ll need to be collected by its new owner after that.
It’s covered just 39,100 miles, wears UK plates, features a part service history, one very special former owner, and could be yours for £500,000 (via AutoTrader).
