Question of the Week

Question of the Week: which car would you put Koenigsegg’s Tiny Friendly Giant engine in?

With around 600bhp from just three cylinders, and no place for it in the Gemera as intended, where do you think it could be relocated instead?

Published: 29 Jul 2024

Though Koenigsegg originally planned for the Gemera to be equipped with its frankly incredible three-cylinder ‘Tiny Friendly Giant’ (TFG) motor, customer demand has meant that it's been put on hold… for now. The four-seat hyper GT will instead play host to a hybrid V8.

The news has given us a brilliant topic for this round of our Question of the Week, however, and one that you lot can certainly have fun with: which car would you place the TFG into in the Gemera’s stead? Considering you’ll have around 600bhp and 443lb ft to play with, you’re not short on options either.

Let's set you up with a few ideas: how about the second-generation Toyota GR Yaris? It, too, has a three-pot, albeit with considerably less (276bhp). Ignoring any logic, like the fact its internals will need to be heavily adapted to fit the TFG, could you imagine how crazy a 600bhp hot hatch would be?

Another suitable donor (albeit a vastly different one) could be something pure and basic… like a Vauxhall VX220. It already has the looks, so lowering in a high-power unit might be just what it needs to eclipse its eternal rival, the Lotus Elise, for good.

One more radical idea for you to consider: how about a Ford Transit in ‘Asda delivery vehicle’ spec? If nothing else, you'd get your weekly shop delivered at warp speed.

The key to being featured in this week’s result post is to give us the most bombastic, wackiest idea you can think of. Over to you.
