Question of the Week: where should Adrian Newey go next?

Adrian Newey is a free agent. Or he will be, when he leaves Red Bull early in 2025. And ahead of this weekend's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, he publicly declared for the first time that he does expect to sign for another F1 team. The question is, which one?

Most gamblers would wager their change on a link-up with Ferrari. They’ve already signed the most successful driver of all time in Lewis Hamilton for next season, and begun a much needed shake-up of their backroom staff with the acquisitions of Jerome D’Ambrosio and Loic Serra.

Ferrari, it seems, are dead serious about returning to the top, and Newey would represent the final piece in their Infinity Gauntlet.

Other options (though apparently less likely) include Aston Martin, McLaren and Mercedes. What about a move back to Williams - the team where he won his first five constructors' titles - to restore the storied outfit to its former glory? If anyone could do it...

There’s another bargaining chip that’s worth considering here too: could the temptation of another road car project be the key to luring Newey?

Red Bull of course gave him a fresh palate to design the forthcoming RB17, a 900-kilo track toy with a 1,200bhp nat asp V10 revving to fifteen thousand rpm.

And let's not forget that it was Newey who got the ball rolling on the Aston Martin Valkyrie, from back in the days when Aston was merely a sponsor and not an F1 team in its own right.
