Project Zed news - It’s another tuned 350Z...- 2009

Published: 27 Aug 2009

A dragster ain't a dragster without a big old V8, right?

Wrong. This ‘Nissan' Pro Car uses a 3.5-litre V6 from the 350Z, though its owner has made a few tiny changes so it now produces, erm, 1,900bhp. That's enough to whip it to 60mph in 1.2 seconds, which is almost as fast as that Usain Bolt character.

The Project Zed dragster will be at Santa Pod for the FIA Euro Finals in September, where it will be the only Japanese-engined car among brawny Yank V8s.

Of course, 1,900bhp is a mere slither of muscle compared to the fully ripped, 8,000bhp top fuel hunks. But in its class (named Super Pro ET, presumably after some sort of well-qualified alien), the Zed could break records.

The car is run by Brams Racing, which also has a 1,150bhp Skyline. Seems like it's a good week for lairy Japanese ’mobiles - remember the 850bhp GT-R we showed you the other day?
