The new Renault Grand Scenic is quite nice

Alright, a Renault Grand Scenic is probably not the car that has you clamouring to click on TopGear.com. But like the Peugeot 3008 revealed yesterday, this is a worthy French car that looks really quite interesting.

Just like the regular Scenic (above, yellow), the larger Grand Scenic (um, grey?) takes some very crossover-y styling cues. We rather like it, the two-tone colour scheme and 20-inch alloys ensuring it doesn’t look as boxy as people carrying rivals. And like the littler Scenic, those 20s are standard fit. A Megane RS doesn’t even get them as an option.

It’s bigger than the Grand Scenic it replaces, measuring 75mm longer, 20mm wider and possessing 30mm of extra ground clearance. Should make speed bumps less of a chore, at least.

Amongst all that, there’s a longer wheelbase, all the better for hosting seven seats and ensuring more space inside for children and all of their paraphernalia. More pertinently, there’s a plethora of USB ports and 12v sockets to provide life support for their endless Snapfacing.

Those in the front don’t have to miss out either, with the massive 8.7-inch R-Link touchscreen system on higher specs. There’s much in the way of safety stuff too, with a pedestrian-sensing Active Emergency Braking system, lane-assist and fatigue detection systems all standard.

There’s the old-fashioned matter of engines to discuss, too. You’ve a choice of five diesels – ranging from 109 to 158bhp, one of them with hybrid tech – and two petrol engines, both of them turbocharged. With either 114 or 128bhp, our hunch is they’ll be the most desirable options if you don’t cover colossal miles.

Sales begin at the end of 2016, by which point we’ll know price details. Expect a starting point of around £22,000, though. Like it?
