Hit or miss: Toyota's A90 Supra Final Edition
After just five years, the A90 is bowing out. Is the ‘Final Edition’ a good enough send off from Toyota?
Cat Dow: “The A90 Final Edition is spot on. It’s almost flawless”
With its sizeable power upgrade to 429bhp, track honed suspension, an unconfirmed but likely sub 4.0secs 0–62mph sprint time and a bodykit that screams Supra in a silent ‘I’ll let my exhaust do the talking’ kinda way, the A90 Final Edition is spot on. It’s almost flawless.
Whether by fate or design Toyota’s even left a little headroom for the modding community to do its thing. Since the 1970s, the Supra has epitomised power in a package that’s easy on the eye.
But all good things must come to an end, and with the Supra’s cult-like following, goodbye was inevitable. Fortunately, the Final Edition has enough going on to keep the legacy of the Supra alive for a bit longer.
Ollie Kew: “Did they get that rear wing off a Tamiya toy?”
And now the outgoing Supra has yet another thing in common with BMW – pathetic rear wings. Yes, it’s the return of the E92 M3 GTS’s apologetic aero to bum ratio here – did they get that off a Tamiya toy? Hard to not to feel this is a missed opportunity.
Sure the power boost is chunky but why not go all in on the Bimmer connection and insist on borrowing the M2’s twin turbo engine? The Supra’s heritage is in boost and tuneability after all.
And it’s just so difficult to get gee’d up when there will only be 300 made, and UK sales aren’t a given. With the GR86 sold out and the Supra bowing out early, I’d wanted a fancier final flourish.
