One-off Astra GTE up for grabs

Published: 08 Mar 2011

The MKII Astra GTE wasn't the most refined hot hatch of the 80s but it steered a lovely line of hoonery. Now you, dear reader, have the chance to own a very special one.

This one-off Astra was built in 1988 to celebrate the silver anniversary of Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, and has covered just 57 miles from new. In fact, it never even saw the Great British Road until last month when it was MOT'd for the first time. Which is good, considering it was particularly appealing to tea-leaves...

It gets a special colour scheme and Connolly bovine for the insides. Sadly, it doesn't come with the raucous 2.0-litre 16v ‘red top' 150bhp engine, but the early 1.8-litre four-pot with around 130bhp, which, considering it weighs less than a WAG, is still sprightly enough. Estimated to get between £5,000 and £7,000.

Also up for grabs is a 1950 Bentley Mark VI - an all-aluminium coachbuilt saloon and one of just two ever made. Also gets a whisky and brandy cabinet, and is expected to go for around £80,000 when it goes under the hammer next week at Sandown Park.

Interested in the GTE, or was the MKII Golf GTI more your cup of tea?
